Furious 7 Becomes Highest Grossing Sequel in Just 10 Days, Box Office Earnings Indicate

While Fast & Furious 6 took 15 weeks to accumulate $238.6 million at the box office, the latest installment of this franchise only took about 10 days to achieve the same feat.

Universal already sees Furious 7 bringing in another $60.6 million over the second weekend, which yet again, are numbers that more than suggest an improvement over Furious 6.

This figure, over the second weekend, is the third-best when it comes to a sophomore session for a movie that is playing prior to summer. Better still, its earnings are close to the top 2 movies at the box office now, and which include American Sniper and Alice in Wonderland.

One reason why these figures have shown an improvement is because of the movie’s availability at IMAX and large-format venues that have amounted to 14% of revenues posted for the second weekend. Previously, when Furious 6 was released in May 2013, Star Trek Into Darkness held a vice-like grip on most of the large format brand’s screens.

At the domestic box office, the South Central and West parts of the United States are indicating strong play and where repeat viewing is also boosting ticket sales. Analysts say that Furious 7 could make as much as $375 million just at the domestic box office.

Apart from this, DreamWorks Animation’s ‘Home’ as well as 20 Century Fox’s ‘The Longest Ride’ are in second and third place by taking in $19 and $13.5 million.

As for Furious 7’s figures, they rank 12th in a list of movies for all-time best second weekend earnings at the domestic box office.
