2016 Obama’s America is the #2 Documentary of 2012, Under Bully

With the new anti-Obama documentary, 2016 Obama’s America grossing seven figures at the weekend, it is officially the #2 documentary of 2012, just behind Bully – another non-nature documentary.

Created by Dinesh D’Souza, it generated $32000 on a single screen in July in Texas and is being played in theaters throughout the country, 169 in all, and has grossed almost $2 million totally.

Of course, it pales in comparison to the $50 million earnings that some blockbusters make over the weekend but the success that it has gained so far has garnered attention from Hollywood as well as people who are interested in politics.

This isn’t the first that a partisan documentary has made a splash and caught people’s attention ever since Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit /911 but one’s thing for sure: 2016 has been crafted in a similar manner as it seeks to get people to avoid voting for President Obama in the coming election in November 2012.

The documentary examines Obama’s past and also makes predictions or speculations about his second term as President and isn’t, by any means, a bipartisan documentary to say the least.

Interestingly, what makes this documentary’s success rather singular is where it is finding success – a New York City theater, where it is the third highest grossing picture after The Dark Knight Rises and Total Recall.

Even though it hasn’t reached the figures that Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11 and Ben Stein’s Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed grossed just yet, there is no doubt that it is fast becoming one of 2012’s out-of-nowhere successes in the United States.
