Who doesn’t enjoy an upbeat dance classic or a sensual R&B hit from the past? The 70s music era was filled with lyrical and melodic gems, as well as funky and fun club hits. From Patty LaBelle to the Jackson Five, as well as suave choreographed dances by The Stylistics and The Manhattans, listening to a playlist of 70s music arouses nostalgia for older generations and is a source of entertainment for the younger folk.

As compared to gospel music, the music of the 70s both juxtaposes the innocent nature of gospel with suggestive lyrics (such as those by the timeless Marvin Gaye), while also parallels the smooth, ballad-like nature of gospel in R&B’s slow and pure soundtracks. Though seemingly very different due to the nature of the lyrics, gospel and 70s music share a common root that can be heard if the listener assesses the sound of the melody.

To hear these similarities, tune into a radio station that is dedicated to gospel music (often found on a.m., f.m., phone applications, or also online radio) and listen to a few tracks; examine the lyrics but more carefully pay attention to the melody and pace of the song. Next, flip to a station that plays hits of the 70s, better yet, a station that focuses on R&B from the 70s; again, pay more attention to the sound rather than the lyrics, noting the slow pace, smooth harmonies, and simple composition.

Ridley Scott, creator of The Alien Franchise has a new movie scheduled for release in June this year. There is much excitement and a distinct air of mystery surrounding the storyline of Prometheus (initially meant to be a prequel to Alien).

Ridley Scott promotes Prometheus using TED

Director, Ridley Scott and screenwriter, Damon Lindelhof wrote a unique talk which is only being shown on the TED (technology, education, design) website. Using TED as a platform is truly a stroke of creative genius…or is it? This is unchartered territory.

The widespread benefits of using TED

TED is about spreading new ideas and so is this new epic science fiction movie, Prometheus – due for release in June 2012. The classic win-win situation is that individuals anticipating the release of this movie may discover the new land of TED – while Ridley Scott’s Prometheus has the almost prestigious branding of TED attached to it.

Not only is it a TEDTalk but it is one envisioned to be projected from the future – from March 2023 to be exact.

TEDTalk inspires one to think about new ideas and to speak about them – enabling Prometheus’s release to be spoken about within a greater sphere of influence. It makes one think of how you cannot wait to chat about a particularly thought provoking movie, just after watching it. Ridley Scott, in essence, plays with the timeline here as he is already inspiring people to talk about the ideas within the movie BEFORE they even see it. This is potentially a very powerful concept.

Where to access this TEDTalk

The TEDTalk is now accessible via the TED website and is titled: TEDTalk 2023. The talk is given by the British-born Australian actor Guy Pierce as his character in the movie, Peter Weyland – a character initially introduced in the Alien franchise almost 20 years ago. It stars Noomi Rapace (from Girl with The Dragon Tatoo), Michael Fassbender (the young Magneto in X-men: First Class), Guy Pearce (L.A. Confidential) and Charlize Theron (from Monster) only to name a few.

Ridley Scott’s decision to promote Prometheus using TED could go down in history as a very sophisticated way to create awareness…with simple storytelling.

70s music had disco and punk, 80s music saw Madonna and Michael Jackson at the top of their game and 90s music was a decade where hip hop became mainstream.

Deciding which was the best is always subjective. It’s something that is often influenced by the decade we grew up in, as music can bring back some of our happiest memories.

70s music was really dominated by disco in the US and UK, but it was the rock stars who emerged in that decade who really endured, such as Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles, Elton John and David Bowie. Punk began in America with the Ramones and British acts the Sex Pistols and the Clash gave it a harder edge. The Police began their successful career in the 70s and, initially, were classed as a punk band by some.

Synthesizers were a key element of 80s music, though hip hop also began to make an impact. Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ paved the way for the music video and Madonna shocked many, but she was soon to become the world’s most successful female artist. The decade certainly had its highs and lows, with the uplifting spectacle of Live Aid, but also the murder of former Beatle John Lennon.

90s music saw hip hop really challenge rock music as the music of choice for youngsters, but grunge was one new rock form to emerge, with Kurt Cobain it’s brightest star. Both grunge and hip hop were to see casualties, as Cobain and rappers Biggie E. Smalls and Tupac Shakur died in their 20s.

How good music was in a particular decade can certainly be influenced by nostalgia. Music that didn’t seem notable first time round will often seem better from a distance of twenty or thirty years away. Each decade will have its supporters as to which produced the best music, but all three had classic songs that will last forever.

If you are an avid music listener, then you probably listen to music all the time, including when you are online, because listening to music online can calm the mind and get you ready to get things done. We all know that we are all motivated by different types of music to work harder than we would normal or pay closer attention to deal – regardless of what specific effect free online music has on you, there is a definitely bonus to listening to some of the good stuff.

Most of us are fans of radio, if for no other reason, than because we can listen to the music we like whenever we are driving, so that it can entertain us, and motivate us to stay awake and alert and focused. So having said that radio seems to have a lot of popular support throughout America, there are several differences in the types of music supported. There are stations around the nation that play anything from hard core heavy metal to soft rock, to country, to hip hop and r & b, to rap, to oldies, you name it, there’s almost always going to be a station for it somewhere, on some wavelength or another. If you are interested in locating a channel with music that you would like, it is a good idea to do some basic research before you head out on your road trip, so that you will know exactly what is available.

Most blue collar workers are able to use an actual radio out on the job but for those who are unable to use a radio there is free online music. Free online music is simply a radio station that is broadcast on the internet. This is able to benefit and help those who can’t bring a radio into work with them. Perhaps one is in a building where reception is so poor that even if they could bring a radio the signal would be very weak, and who wants to listen to a scratchy radio station. The broadcast quality of the sound truly does matter and make a difference in the enjoyment of the music.

Like a fine wine, some things get better over time, and when you take the opportunity to bring out some of your classic record albums, you will be surprised how fast the nostalgia will take over and have you singing along with some of your favorite songs, remembering the good ole days, and all the memories that come along with your favorite songs.

Whatever your individual taste may be, there is a record out there for everyone. But when it comes to selecting vinyl, some artists win out over others, as their music is enhanced by the authentic sound and feel that vinyl records bring out while you enjoy the experience of listening to your favorite music of choice. Hearing the soft hum of the record as it turns and the occasional crack, like the feeling you get by sitting next to a warm fire in the winter, fills you with a sense of warmth and serenity that can only be found in this format.

Though a bit more eclectic than CDs or MP3s, vinyl really personifies a different era of music; one where musicians really had to be a master of their craft, where they had to rely on their talents alone, and didn’t have the modern technology we now have in the studios to make up for imperfections while recording.

Music was different back then, and when you pop in your favorite Beatles vinyl, you really get a sense of what it was like back in the 1960s, when there was nothing else like them, and the world was floored by this new and hip sounds that they had never imagined before.

Going back even further, when The King of Rock and Roll made his debut, Elvis Presley vinyl, give us a taste of a different take on a traditional sound that evolved over his career into something unique and special. Though many artists have come and gone since the days of The King, none have had the same effect on the masses as he did back in his heyday.

These artists and many others can be enjoyed in any format, but when you listen to them on vinyl, you really give yourself the chance to go back in time and listen to the music the way it was intended, and relive the days of your youth, or your parents’ youth, in a way unlike any other. Unlike the cassette tape or eight track, vinyl isn’t going anywhere, and neither is the classic music you’ve grown to love and appreciate over the years.

Downloading music illegally is becoming a big problem around the world. People are no longer satisfied with buying cds, they want free online music that they can download at the stroke of a keyboard. An astounding number of people do this every day, and think nothing of it. People don’t consider it wrong, everyone else is doing it, so why shouldn’t they? It is not looked at as illegal, which it is. The industry is cracking down on sights that allow people to download free music illegally. Several popular sights have been shut down within the past year or two. And several people have been caught downloading music and have had to pay fines.

But people continue to download music. People love music, and music is expensive, unless you are listening to it over the radio. But if you want to own the music, cds and itunes are pretty expensive. The best option for people who don’t have enough money to buy music, but don’t want to download music illegally, is to listen to online radio. Several radio stations broadcast over the internet, and can be listened to anywhere in the world from a computer. There are also radio sites that allow you to combine all your favorite music, or to indicate your music preferences, and listen to them all you like streaming online. People don’t have to download illegal music, there are other ways to get access to music that will not get you in trouble.

Everyone loves music. There is something about making it, or listening to it, that expresses your emotions, that imitates life, and it brings a lot of joy to a lot of people. There are numerous images on television and in movies of young kids riding down the highway with the radio blasting. It triggers the image of total freedom, ultimate surrender, and happiness.

Music has the ability to unite people. Listening to lyrics can bring someone back to a certain time in their life. It allows people to know that they are not alone in their hurt, and it allows people to express their love of life. There are so many different types of music, Christian music, rock, pop, hip-hop, jazz, reggae, soul, metal, or country, the list goes on and on and on. Each genre of music brings something different for the ear and the soul to enjoy.

Every day the world is becoming more and more connected through music. There is free music available on the web, CDs are being bought and sold all over the world, thanks to iTunes and other online programs people can download their favorite songs instantly to their phones, or iPods, or car radios.

Somehow, no matter what is going on in a person’s life, or in the world, the magic of music can bring people together, and somehow make people understand that although everyone is different, everyone is human, with love and joy and hurt and pain. It is an amazing thing
